Vicente del Bosque enjoyed a winning start as coach of European champions Spain after seeing his side record a friendly win over Denmark in Copenhagen.
Substitute Xabi Alonso (two) and Xavi netted the goals in the second half as the Spanish extended their unbeaten run to 23 games, with victories in each of the last 13.
There was a minute's silence before the match following Wednesday afternoon's plane crash at Madrid's Barajas airport which according to latest reports has claimed the lives of more than 140 people.
Both teams also wore black armbands as a mark of respect while a planned tribute to Spain in their first match since this summer's European Championship success was also cancelled due to the tragedy.
Spain kicked off with nine of the side that started June's Euro 2008 final against Germany, with the only changes seeing injured duo Cesc Fabregas and Carlos Marchena replaced by David Villa and Raul Albiol.
Jon Dahl Tomasson became the fifth Danish player to win his 100th cap after being named in Morten Olsen's first XI, and it was his clever cushioned header that created the first chance of the match for Daniel Jensen, whose low shot was pushed behind by the diving Iker Casillas.
That was in the 11th minute and not long after that Denmark created another opening when Dennis Rommedahl put Nicklas Bendtner in behind the Spain defence but the Arsenal man fired his shot into the side-netting.
Only a vital interception from Spain centre-back Carles Puyol then denied Rommedahl a simple tap-in after Bendtner had robbed Albiol near the goalline as Denmark continued to look the more dangerous side in the opening 45 minutes.
Despite the hosts' dominance, though, Spain almost took the lead on the stroke of half-time when Euro 2008 player of the tournament Xavi fired in a volley that was superbly saved one-handed by Thomas Sorensen.
Del Bosque opted to make two changes at the break, bringing on Alonso and debutant Diego Capel, and the switch paid immediate dividends with the former breaking the deadlock in the 50th minute.
Fernando Torres did well by the goalline to lift the ball over his marker before laying it back to Liverpool club-mate Alonso, who volleyed home his second goal for his country from 10 yards out.
Spain were looking much more threatening in the second half and Santi Cazorla fired a rising shot just over before Xavi made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute.
The Barcelona midfielder picked up a pass from Capel on the edge of the Denmark area, side-stepped the challenge of Christian Poulsen before curling a low shot past the diving Sorensen.
Spain added a third in injury-time to complete the scoring when winger Capel picked out fellow replacement Alonso at the far post and the midfielder gave Sorensen no chance with a clinical finish on the half-volley.
The now-rampant Spanish almost added a fourth goal moments after that but Cazorla was unfortunate to see his curling shot bounce back off the far post following a determined run.
