RSL play to draw with Harbour View

Real Salt Lake came out firing on all cylinders Wednesday and out played Jamaican power Harbour View F.C. throughout the friendly match before settling for a 1-1 tie at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Lovel Palmer scored in the 56th minute to give the visitors the lead, but Nelson Akwari countered for RSL in the 64th off a service from former Harbour View midfielder Robert Scarlett.

Controlling the pace of play was Scarlett, whom Real acquired within the last month. He gave the home side its first real chance in the 11th minute.

Showing his tremendous speed Scarlett streaked into the corner before sending in a nice cross to fellow Jamaican Andy Williams on the back post. But Real came up empty as Williams sent the ball over the crossbar.

Just two minutes later it was Harbour View on the offensive when William Richards made a nice run into the box. Richards pulled up and fired off a rocket from 15 yards out that looked like it was going to sneak just inside the post. But Real 'keeper Jay Nolly used every inch of his 6-foot-3 frame to send the ball just wide.

Scarlett again proved to be more than his former teammates could handle in the 33rd minute. He received a through ball, wound up and unleashed a left footed shot that was heading for the upper corner, but Harbour View 'keeper Leighton Murray was just able to get a hand on it, sending is harmlessly over the crossbar.

Despite going in at half knotted at 0-0, Real had easily out played Harbour View, notching 10 shots to Harbour View's three. But it was Harbour View who notched the game's first goal in the 56th minute.

Halftime substitute Marcelino Blackburn intercepted a ball in the midfield and was able to connect with Lovel Palmer, who had used his speed to get behind the Real defense. D.J. Countess, who had replaced Nolly at half, came off his line to try and cut Palmer's angle, but was unsuccessful as Harbour View took the 1-0 lead.

RSL continued to pressure Harbour View and it paid off in the 64th minute when a Jamie Watson shot was saved out of bounds giving Real a corner. Scarlett bent the ball in to Nelson Akwari who used his head to put the ball squarely in the back of the net, knotting the score at 1.

As the game wore on Real had many chances to score the game winner, but could not connect, settling for tie.
