The New England Revolution today announced the names of the players selected for its 2008-09 Under-16 and Under-18 youth teams. Players from Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire are represented on the two teams, which formally begin national competition this fall in the prestigious U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
The Revolution's groundbreaking youth program - which is completely free of cost to all chosen participants - allows the region's top youth players to train under the guidance of the Revolution's coaching staff and have the opportunity to one day play for the Revolution. The program, under Major League Soccer's initiative, also allows all participants to retain their NCAA eligibility.
A Revolution Under-17 team, comprised of members of both the Under-16 and Under-18 teams, will make the club's youth competition debut in early July when they compete in the second-annual SUM Under-17 Cup in Colorado.
