Reds Reserves beat Revs

Tyler Rosenlund

Midfielder Ibbe Ibrahim scored the game-winning goal in the 87th minute to lead Toronto FC's reserves to a 2-1 victory over the New England Revolution reserves on Sunday morning on the Lower Practice Field at Gillette Stadium. The loss snapped a short two-game unbeaten run for New England (1-4-2, 5 pts.), while Toronto (4-2-0, 12 pts.) earned its fourth victory of the season.

TFC's Tyler Rosenlund gave the Reds an early 1-0 lead with a goal in the 14th minute, as the midfielder slid in at the near post to bank a loose ball off the far post and into the back of the net.

Guest player Geoff Walker leveled the score at 1-1 in the 31st minute with his second goal in as many games. Kenny Mansally corralled a loose ball in the right side of the box after a corner kick, and played a pass into the middle for Walker, who one-timed a shot off the crossbar and in past Toronto goalkeeper Greg Sutton.

The Revs had a chance to take the lead on a free kick from just outside the area in the 50th minute, but Mansally's strike sailed over the crossbar. TFC then had two opportunities to pull ahead with back-to-back corner kicks in the 76th and 78th minutes, but failed to beat New England goalkeeper Doug Warren.

New England had its best chance to pull ahead in the 85th minute, when left back Chase Hilgenbrinck drove down the left side of the field and played a dangerous cross into the middle for Brandon Manzonelli, whose shot went just wide of the right post.

Ibrahim scored the game-winner for Toronto just two minutes later, banking a feed from teammate Kevin Harmse off the crossbar and into the net, giving the Reds the 2-1 victory.

Warren made four saves in goal for New England, while Sutton stopped two shots before being replaced by David Monsalve at halftime.
