and he struck for a pair of goals within a three-minute span. First, in the 15th minute, his pace allowed him to strip a defender of the ball and he cut into the area before slotting home a left-footed shot.

• Then in the 17th, Dave van den Bergh -- playing on the right flank in his first meeting against his former club -- swung in a cross that Cunningham slipped between defenders to get onto the end of, knocking a low volley into the goal. It was Cunningham's first two-goal game since Sept. 21, 2008 at Chicago and gave him 107 for his MLS career, one behind Jason Kreis for third on the all-time list.

• The Red Bulls were able to pull a goal back two minutes before the break. Jorge Rojas found an overlapping Danleigh Borman on the left and he played a quick ball into Juan Pablo Angel in the six-yard box, who was able to get his first-time shot past FCD 'keeper Ray Burse.

• Red Bulls head coach Juan Carlos Osorio made four changes to the team that lost 1-0 to the Columbus Crew the week before. Danleigh Borman and Mike Petke came into the back four, Matthew Mbuta into the midfield and Juan Pablo Angel returned up top, with Carlos Mendes injured, Alfredo Pacheco on international duty, and Khano Smith and John Wolyniec going to the substitutes' bench.

• Here's Osorio's team (4-4-1-1): Danny Cepero - Danleigh Borman (Khano Smith 49), Andrew Boyens (Sinisa Ubiparipovic 46), Mike Petke, Jeremy Hall - Nick Zimmerman (John Wolyniec 80), Luke Sassano, Seth Stammler, Matthew Mbuta - Jorge Rojas - Juan Pablo Angel. Substitutes Not Used: Bouna Coundoul

TEAM NEWS
• The FC Dallas loss finished off a stretch of six away games in a seven-game span - and the Red Bulls lost each one. The Red Bulls have lost eight of their last nine games and their current 10-game winless span is two games short of the club record set in 1999.

• "A lot of things have gone wrong," Osorio said. "With many different decisions and in many different ways, it seems like we don't have any breaks. We've just had a very poor season."

• Angel was not expected to figure against FC Dallas, still suffering from a hamstring strain that had kept him out of the Columbus match, but with just three available players even for the substitutes' bench, the Colombian felt he had to play.

• "If we weren't in the situation that we're in right now, I wouldn't have played today," Angel said. "I've never been in this situation in my entire career, especially at this level. We only have 13 field players on the squad and I find that shocking. But I guess that's the way it is. There's obviously something we're doing wrong here - to be at this level and not have sufficient players to fill the bench."

• Since back-to-back shutouts on April 11-18, the Red Bulls have not kept a clean sheet. They have allowed multiple goals in six of their last eight games.

• "As we always talk about, it's defending first," Seth Stammler said. "If we can keep a team to one goal, we're going to have a good chance, especially with Juan up top and the other forwards we have. Hopefully that creates some good offensive chances for us."

• New York is now riding a league record 23-game regular-season road winless streak (0-17-6). The Red Bulls' last league victory away from Giants Stadium was May 10, 2008 at Los Angeles, although they won two road playoff games to reach the MLS Cup. But New York faces just one road game in their next seven - a visit next weekend to Colorado.

• During the off week, the Red Bulls signed Leo Krupnik, who they chose with the 69th selection in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft. The 6-foot-3 center back didn't make the club, instead playing for the Des Moines Menace of the Premier Development League. The then-MetroStars player was signed again late in the season, but never played. He later went on to win a championship with the Wilmington Hammerheads and most recently played for Israeli club Maccabi Haifa, which qualified for the UEFA Champions League.

• "Good central defender with a lot of experience," Osorio said. "He played for Maccabi Haifa, I believe 29 or 28 games last season, and they won the championship in Israel and they qualified for the Champions League. So he seems like he has something to contribute."

• After returning from a series of meetings in Austria with Red Bull officials, along with club sporting director Jeff Agoos, Red Bull New York managing director Erik Stover said Juan Carlos Osorio will remain as coach.

• "When news of our trip was reported, many people speculated that we would make a change in the coaching staff this week," Stover wrote on the team's blog, Red Bulls Reader. "However, after much deliberation, it was decided to keep the coaching staff in place. The coaches are all aware that they are judged on the team's performance and know that their positions are on the line. But ownership is committed to its employees -- at all levels - and wants them to succeed."

LOS ANGELES GALAXY

The Los Angeles Galaxy won for the third consecutive match - all by 1-0 scores - in winning the second SuperClasico of the season last Saturday at The Home Depot Center. The Galaxy are in a tie for fourth place in the Western Conference with 24 points from 17 matches, seven points behind the MLS overall leaders Houston Dynamo.

LAST MATCH
• Chivas USA were coming into the second SuperClasico of the year in their first league match in nearly a month, having lost their last two June 10-14. The LA Galaxy had won back-to-back games, both by 1-0 scorelines, their first consecutive victories of the season.

• After a scoreless draw in the first meeting, the game's lone goal came at the half-hour mark. Mike Magee knocked the ball wide to A.J. DeLaGarza, and the rookie defender swung a cross into the center of the area for Edson Buddle to powerfully head home, his second goal on the season.

• Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena made one change to the team that defeated the New England Revolution on July 4 in Carson. Landon Donovan made his return to the lineup, coming in on the left side of midfield in place of Eddie Lewis.

• Here's Arena's team (4-1-3-2): Josh Saunders - A.J. DeLaGarza, Gregg Berhalter, Omar Gonzalez, Todd Dunivant - Stefani Miglioranzi - Jovan Kirovski (Tony Sanneh 87), Mike Magee (Chris Klein 78), Landon Donovan - Edson Buddle, Alecko Eskandarian (Eddie Lewis 72). Substitutes Not Used: Tristan Bowen, Leonard Griffin, Kevin Guppy, Bryan Jordan

• "What I'm pleased about is our guys had the right mentality and that was a real mental and tactical exercise for 90 minutes and their concentration was great," Arena said. "Winning games 1-0 in this sport is important and we're learning to do that."

TEAM NEWS
• The victory was the Galaxy's third consecutive 1-0 win, two of which have come with starting goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts off with the Jamaican national team. Making his seventh career start, Josh Saunders picked up a pair of saves in the shutout, and also made a diving parry of a ball that deflected off a Galaxy teammate and nearly went into the back of the net.

• "It was good to go in there and get another win under our belt, which is the most important thing," Saunders said. "For me tonight, I really didn't have that much to do. I can't say enough about the four guys in front of me and Stefani [Miglioranzi] as well, they did a great job cutting out a lot of balls and not allowing them to get off a lot of shots. I give all the credit to them."

• The Galaxy have recorded three consecutive shutouts in league play for the first time since posting five in a row from June 24-July 15, 2006. They have not allowed a goal for 326 minutes.

• "I thought Omar Gonzalez was a monster. I thought he had a terrific game," said Arena, who also praised A.J. DeLaGarza. "It's good to see those young players improving. They got beat up and got their noses bloodied a little bit in the beginning of the year but I think these experiences have been positive ones for them."

• "Anytime you get a shutout you're going to be happy with that, it was 11 players making a conscious effort to work and win the ball and I think that everybody deserves credit for that," defender Gregg Berhalter said.

• David Beckham returned from his loan to AC Milan and participated in his first training session with the Galaxy on Monday. Arena said it is likely Beckham will feature in some way against the Red Bulls.

• "My guess is he fits in there. Exactly where is to be determined," Arena said. "We haven't had him on the field with our team yet but obviously we think the world of David. He's an outstanding player and healthier than he has been in a long time."

• Additionally, the Galaxy will have Trinidad and Tobago international Chris Birchall available for the New York match as well. "The pieces are coming together a little bit better," Arena said. "Certainly we've got a long way to go. We have to get better as a team. Our aspirations are to try and make the playoffs and we have to keep trying to improve and move forward."
