MEXICO CITY - New Mexico boss Sven-Goran Eriksson insists he was happy with his side's performance despite watching them scrape past Honduras in his first competitive game in charge.
The 'Tri' opened the semi-final stage of the Concacaf qualifiers with a hard-fought 2-1 win, Stuttgart's Pavel Pardo scoring twice after Julio Cesar De Leon had put the visitors in front.
The Swede said: "It was a hard-fought triumph, but Mexico were clearly the superior team.
"We played better than the Hondurans but had no luck. We surely will have more in the next game."
Eriksson also had words of encouragement for Tottenham playmaker Giovani Dos Santos and Arsenal striker Carlos Vela, both of whom underperformed.
He added: "They perhaps didn't play brilliantly today, but they are very young.
"I have no doubt they will respond when we need them. They're Mexico's future."
