HOUSTON, TX - Houston Dynamo will be making a major announcement regarding a U.S. Open Cup doubleheader, to be played at Robertson Stadium on August 1.
The event, which will be attended by team President and General Manager Oliver Luck, former Salvadorian National Team member Santos Cabrera, and Honduran community representative Teodoro Aguilúz, will be held on Thursday, July 6, at 2:00 p.m., at ¡Sabor! Central American Restaurant, located inside the Plaza del Rey Center, at 5712 Bellaire Blvd. in Houston.
The doubleheader will feature a U.S. Open Cup game, between the Houston Dynamo and an opponent still to be determined. The U.S. Open Cup is the second-oldest soccer tournaments in the world, dating back to 1914. Similar in format to the Copa del Rey (Spain), Carling Cup (England) and Coppa Italia (Italy), it is played between all teams affiliated to the United States Soccer Federation, from amateur clubs to MLS teams, potentially bringing to Houston a classic David vs. Goliath type of matchup. The Los Angeles Galaxy is the defending champion of this event, having also won it in 2001.
