The Houston Dynamo have hired Rocky Harris as the team's new vice president, it was announced Monday.
Harris comes to the Dynamo after two years as Director of Sports and Marketing Sponsorships at Reliant Energy. Before that, Harris served almost three years with the NFL's Houston Texans as Director of Media Relations and Communications. Harris started his career in public relations with the San Francisco 49ers.
Harris, a graduate of Arizona State University with a master's degree in sports management from the University of San Francisco and a certificate in leadership from Rice University, will oversee the marketing and communications departments with the Dynamo.
"We are extremely fortunate to have Rocky on board," Dynamo Chief Operating Officer Chris Canetti said. "He is an extraordinarily talented individual that brings a high level of experience to our organization. I am looking forward to the professionalism, productivity, and results that he will add to our business."
The newest member of the Dynamo's staff, Harris has extensive experience in communications, having managed the Texans' staff to the Pete Rozelle Award, given by the Pro Football Writers of America to the NFL's top public relations staff.
He was also honored with the American Marketing Association's Crystal Award in 2006 and 2007 for best promotional campaign.
