Guerrero called to Honduras National Team

D.C. United announced midfielder/defender Ivan Guerrero has been called up to join the Honduras National Team to play a World Cup Qualifier against Mexico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on November 19.

After serving as the captain for the Under 23 National Team in 2000 when Honduras reached its first Olympic appearance, Guerrero has become a fixture on the National Team roster. During the qualifying stages for the 2002 World Cup, he led his team to the final round before falling to Mexico 3-0. Guerrero's most recent call-up to join his National Team was in a World Cup qualifier on August 20 of this year in a 2-1 defeat to Mexico in Mexico City. During his career, the 30-year-old has represented his country in 80 matches.

Guerrero began the 2008 season with the San Jose Earthquakes after being picked up by the League's newest team in the 2007 Expansion Draft. The Honduran started 13 of 14 games and tallied a goal before being acquired by D.C. United on 7/31 for a partial allocation. Just two days after joining the Black-and-Red, Guerrero was thrust into the starting lineup on 8/2, notching an assist in the 2-0 win. He went on to start in each of the 13 League games he played in, tallying four assists. In other competitions, Guerrero played in four games (all starts).
