LA Galaxy acquired forward Jovan Kirovski from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for a conditional pick in the 2010 Supplemental Draft, the club announced today. A former member of the Galaxy, Kirovski split the 2008 season between the Earthquakes and the Colorado Rapids. In his five-year MLS career, Kirovski has appeared in a total of 118 games, scoring 24 goals and contributing 10 assists.
"Jovan is an experienced player who we are happy to have back with the Galaxy," Galaxy General Manager and Head Coach Bruce Arena said. "He has shown the ability to play abroad, internationally and in MLS and is a welcome addition to our roster."
In February 2005, the Galaxy acquired Kirovski following a two-year stint with Birmingham City of the English Premier League. In his two seasons with Galaxy, he appeared in 48 games and compiled 12 goals and six assists, and just missed out on the club's run to winning the U.S. Open Cup and MLS Cup.
In September 2005, Kirovski was traded from the Galaxy to the Rapids in exchange for a first round pick in the 2007 MLS SuperDraft. He went on to record 12 goals and four assists in 61 games with the Rapids, winning the club's Budweiser Golden Boot in 2007 with a team-best six goals. On May 21, 2008, San Jose acquired Kirovski, however he was limited to just nine games with the Earthquakes and missed much of the season with a stress facture in his right foot.
A native of Escondido, Calif., Kirovski played with several of the top clubs in Europe prior to signing with MLS, boasting stints at Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Sporting Lisbon. He began his professional career in Europe as a 15-year-old, joining Manchester United's youth program in 1992 and was part of the same class that produced stars such as David Beckham and Ryan Giggs.
A former member the U.S. National Team, Kirovski made 62 international appearances for the Red, White and Blue from 1994-2004. He tallied nine goals and one assist with the National Team, helping the U.S. to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 1998, 2002 and 2006, while also appearing in the 1995 Copa America, the 1996 and 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 1999 and 2003 FIFA Confederations Cup.
