Five questions with Alex Zahavi

Alex Zahavi

Alex Zahavi is maturing in Israel. He recently scored his first goal as a member of Maccabi Haifa in a friendly against Dynamo Kiev, and the 20-year-old should start seeing time on the first team. He's also deciding whether to complete a one-time switch to the United States, but sounds as though he's ready to officially don the Stars and Stripes for Thomas Rongen's U-20 side.
The winger recently answered five questions for MLSsoccer.com.
1. What's your most memorable United States national team moment?

The goal against Colombia in my first game for the United States [U-20s in the Torneo de las Américas]. It was a nice moment and a nice debut. I can't complain.

2. What would you tell yourself of five years ago?

Always work hard. Keep my head high. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. With time, everything goes in the right direction. What's meant to be is meant to be.

3. Favorite teammate to play with? Why?

I played with Greg Garza for three years at Sporting Lisbon and being with him on the US national squad is nice. We get along well on and off the field.

4. What's one skill you could improve?

Consistency. I want to try and maintain a good level all the time in every game and work hard all the time.

5. Where do you see yourself in five years in regards to the US team?

That's a long period of time. It's hard to tell the future, but hopefully in some good condition with the US. Soccer is round, like the world. Once you're on top, and then you're on the bottom, and then you're back on top again. But hopefully I'll be in a good place.
