English Premier League side Stoke City to face FC Dallas on US summer tour

Brek Shea with Stoke

Brek Shea will make his grand return to FC Dallas Stadium this summer.

The US national team winger, who spent the first five years of his professional career with FC Dallas, will reunite with his former hometown fans when his English Premier League side Stoke City face FCD in a summer friendly on Saturday, July 27. The MLS club confirmed the news on Thursday via Twitter.

The match will be part of a 10-day US tour for the EPL side, who acquired Shea in the January transfer window. Stoke, who are currently six points above the relegation drop zone in the EPL, are scheduled to arrive in the US on July 22 and the club hopes the trip will solidify their place in the American soccer market.

"If there is one market right now where we can develop our own profile, then it has to be America due to the presence of three US internationals in our squad,” said Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes in a club statement.

In addition to Shea, who has made just two EPL appearances since arriving at the club, the Potters' roster also features ex-Houston Dynamo stalwart Geoff Cameron and former TFC midfielder Maurice Edu, who is currently on loan to Turkey's Bursaspor.

Also, Stoke City director Phil Rawlins serves as the president of USL-side Orlando City, who are making a push to become one of the next MLS expansion teams.

Stoke also traveled to the US last summer and faced MLS' Columbus Crew and Sporting Kansas City.
