Dynamo unveils player development system

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Dynamo has launched operations on its very own player development system, it was announced today.

The newly created "Dynamo Player Development System" will provide various levels of developmental programs and training opportunities for local youth soccer players. The multi-tiered system will offer programs for players of all ages and skill sets, while providing a direct "path to the pros."

In cooperation with the "South Texas Youth Soccer Association," the Dynamo Player Development System will help foster the growth of youth soccer throughout the South Texas region, while identifying potential pro prospects for the Dynamo.

"This program will help the Dynamo strengthen its relationship with the local soccer community, while providing the club an opportunity to discover and develop homegrown talent," said director of youth development, James Clarkson. "Our relationship with STYSA is imperative because it allows us to work cooperatively on our mutual goal of developing the sport."

"South Texas Youth Soccer is excited about this new partnership with Dynamo Player Development professionals as we are constantly searching for better ways to develop the talents of the young men and women involved in Soccer," said Ed Loucks, President of South Texas Youth Soccer.

Together, the Dynamo and STYSA plan on becoming the model program for Major League Soccer. This partnership will connect the professional game and youth soccer. It will merge the resources of STYSA and the Dynamo to form a powerful, diverse, and focused organization with mutual ideals and goals. Most importantly, the relationship is designed with the best interests of the game and the kids in mind.

The system includes three primary training levels, ranging from the grassroots on up to the Dynamo Academy. The three levels within the Dynamo Player Development System are as follows:

Level 1 - Seasonal Camps
Level 2 - Centers of Excellence
Level 3 - The Dynamo Academy

Theoretically, the best players can climb the Dynamo Player Development System and sign a professional contract to play for the Dynamo Reserve or First Team.

The highest level of the Player Development System is Level 3, the Dynamo Academy. The Academy will consist of a U-15 and U-18 boys' team. The region's elite players will be selected to play for the Dynamo Academy. The Academy will operate under the philosophies and systems of the Dynamo First Team, as established by head coach Dominic Kinnear. The players will receive the highest level of year-round training in a professional environment. They will play in local, regional, domestic and international competitions.

"The Dynamo Academy is something all area youth soccer players will be aiming for," said Clarkson. "Academy players will be best positioned for a strong future, including a potential pro contract with the Dynamo."

Per new MLS policies, players from the Dynamo Academy can be designated as homegrown talent and be signed to a professional contract by the Dynamo without having to enter the MLS SuperDraft, under certain MLS requirements.

Participating Academy players will remain with their current club teams and will not have to engage in an exclusive relationship with the Dynamo Academy.

Level 2 of the Dynamo Player Development System involves the Dynamo "Centers of Excellence." This program is designed for players aged 8 to 14. These elite training programs will provide a carefully structured curriculum focusing on the technical aspects of their game. Sessions are designed to supplement the training the players are currently receiving throughout the year at their clubs. Sessions will take place at five separate locations throughout the calendar year.

Level 1 of the Dynamo Player Development System involves the Dynamo "Seasonal Camps." This program is designed for players 8 to 12. They target both the recreational and competitive player and offer a one-of-a-kind age and skill specific curriculum. Camp sessions will be held throughout the calendar year.
