Chivas USA arrives in Mexico

Chivas USA arrived on Thursday in Guadalajara and Chivas USA Head Coach Martin Vasquez immediately brought the team outside for an evening training session. Chivas USA will travel on Friday to Irapuato, Guanajuato, where they will face the Freseros de Irapuato from the Mexican Liga de Ascenco in a scrimmage that will take place at Sergio León Chávez Stadium.

"I'm very happy to be here," said Vasquez upon his arrival in Guadalajara. The native of nearby Yahualica, Jalisco, played for three different teams in Guadalajara during his career: Universidad de Guadalajara, Tecos U.A.G., and Atlas. "I played here for many years. It's a city I miss very much."

"After two weeks of working in The Home Depot Center, this is a different environment. The team is happy, enthusiastic, and with a lot of energy, and we want to take advantage of the matches we have planned," said Vasquez.

Newly acquired Salvadoran star Osael Romero joined the team in Mexico on Thursday evening. The midfielder met his teammates at the Guadalajara International Airport. Once arriving, Vasquez spoke with him and presented him formally to his teammates during practice. Romero said he was very happy to join his new teammates, especially players like Gerson Mayén and Mariano Trujillo, who helped Romero during his first training with the team.

"I told him that he came to a team who wants to achieve the set objectives and we want to take advantage of this great opportunity," said the Head Coach of Chivas USA.

Among those present in the first training of Chivas USA in Guadalajara was the Director of Youth Development of Chivas de Guadalajara, Efraín Flores, who told the team of the high expectations in 2010.

Chivas USA will train this Friday in the Sergio León Chávez Stadium in Irapuato, where this Saturday's match will take place at 7:00 p.m. local time. Irapuato was last year's runner-up in the Liga de Ascenso and is in first place in the current Bicentennial tournament in the division.

"We want to know where we stand. For us, Irapuato will be our measuring stick, to know what we need to work on. That's what we're looking for in the upcoming scrimmages, so that we can keep working hard and come March 26 we are well prepared," concluded Vasquez.
