Carver comments on Edu's departure

Toronto coach John Carver admits Mo Edu's departure will be a huge loss.

Maurice Edu has now finalized his release from MLS, but is still waiting to receive a work permit before his move from Toronto FC to Glasgow Rangers can be completed. Toronto Coach John Carver admits Edu's departure will be a "huge loss" but expects the club to make good use of the money that will be received from the transfer.

"He's a huge loss but we are looking to replace him," said Carver. "We all know that we are desperate for a training facility and hopefully we can invest the money back into the club again and continue to develop our Academy."

Carver wasn't surprised that Edu would be targeted by a big European club. "It was always going to happen whether it was this year, next year or the following year. To be honest, I expected him to go to England, but Rangers came in with a bid after seeing what he did in the Olympics," explained Carver. "What he's got to realize is that he's going to a massive club. They are one of the biggest clubs in the world and the expectation levels are huge. A club like Rangers or Celtic is a good starting point for him. Scotland is a beautiful place but he'll have to settle down quite quickly because the fans want success and they haven't won the championship for a couple of years now so there's a lot of pressure. They don't give you much time there. You either fit in and do well straight away or you end up moving on."

"I think he's ready for the challenge. I didn't see much of him last year but he's done ok this year. Mo will always give you everything he has got even when he's not playing well. The Rangers fans will get behind him if they see he is giving everything for the cause, and he will certainly do that."
