Just before hopping aboard a flight to Toronto to meet up with his Canadian international teammates, goalkeeper Lars Hirschfeld managed to grab himself a clean sheet.
Hirschfeld and Norwegian Tippeligaen side Valerenga blanked Sogndal 1-0 on Sunday, the win keeping the club in mid-table after nine matches of play.
Also in the Tippeligaen, former Chivas USA and Toronto FC utility man Chris Pozniak found himself on the winning side of the ledger over the weekend. Pozniak started and played the full match for Haugesund in a 5-0 rout of visiting Molde.
Elsewhere in Scandinavia, a trio of Canadians were in action as IFK Marieham lost 1-0 to VPS in Finland. Tomer Chenchinski was in goal for VPS and picked up the shut out in his first start. On the other side of the field, Mason Trafford played the full 90 for Mariehamn, while teammate Luca Bellisomo subbed in for the final five minutes of play.
In nearby Denmark, midfielder Issey Nakajima-Farran entered the match at the start of the second half for AC Horsens, who lost 2-1 away to Silkeborg.
Another Canuck netminder — Haidar Al-Shaibani — was in action just before heading off for Gold Cup duty, although his club Nîmes Olympique fell 2-1 to Ajaccio in French Ligue 2 action. Al-Shaibani picked up a yellow card and was subbed out toward the end of the match.
