Bordeaux aim to snatch title from Lyon

Bordeaux midfielder Wendel has given his team a 5% chance of snatching the title from defending champions Lyon.

Bordeaux midfielder Wendel has given his team a 5% chance of snatching the title from defending champions Lyon when the Ligue 1 season reaches its climax on Saturday.

On a night when relegation and European issues will also be decided, most eyes will be on the battle for top spot between Lyon and Bordeaux.

Les Gones are two points clear of Bordeaux and have a vastly superior goal difference, meaning a draw at Auxerre will be enough for Alain Perrin's men to claim the crown for a seventh successive season.

If Lyon were to lose at the Stade l'Abbe-Deschamps, Les Girondins will win their first Ligue 1 title since the 1998/99 season if they beat Lens away.

Wendel does not give his team much of a chance ahead of the final weekend of the campaign.

"Lyon have a pair of aces, we have a pair of kings," said the Brazilian, who last Sunday lost out to Les Gones striker Karim Benzema in the voting for Ligue 1's player of the season.

"They have a 95% chance of being champions, we have a 5% chance.

"But losing at Auxerre can always happen."

Lyon will be without suspended winger Sidney Govou while Bordeaux are missing injured duo Jussie and Alejandro Alonso, and could also be without Ulrich Rame (adductor) and Johan Micoud (calf).

At the other end of the table, Lens, Toulouse and Paris St Germain are battling to avoid being the team joining already-relegated Metz and Strasbourg in Ligue 2 next term.

Lens are currently in the drop zone but they are level on points with Toulouse, who are at home to Valenciennes on Saturday.

PSG, a point clear of their relegation rivals, are at Sochaux and will be thinking a draw at the Stade Auguste-Bonal should be enough to scrape them to safety for a second successive campaign.

It will be prolific PSG striker Pedro Pauleta's last league game in French football, eight years after he moved to the country to play for Bordeaux.

Nancy and Marseille resume their fight for third place and a spot in next season's Champions League qualifying rounds.

The Lorraine club, who are at home to Rennes, are a point clear of OM, who take on Strasbourg at the Stade Velodrome.

Fifth position, and a place in next season's UEFA Cup, is also still up for grabs.

Lille currently own it and will secure European football if they beat Lorient away.

Sixth-placed St Etienne, who are at home to Monaco, and seventh-placed Rennes are a point behind LOSC and are ready to pounce.

Saturday's other matches in Ligue 1 see Metz host Le Mans and Nice welcome Caen.
