Beckham misses training for second consecutive day

David Beckham will play in Rio Tinto Stadium for the first time in his career on Saturday.

CARSON, Calif. – Despite missing training for a second-consecutive day on Friday, David Beckham’s status is not in doubt for Sunday’s MLS Cup final, according to Bruce Arena.

“He's playing on Sunday,” the LA Galaxy head coach told reporters after Friday's practice.

Arena wouldn’t elaborate further on the circumstances of Beckham’s absence beyond what he deemed a “cold” after Thursday’s practice. Beckham himself added later in the afternoon at a press conference in downtown Los Angeles that his absence from training was “precautionary.”

The 2011 Comeback Player of the Year has struggled this season with back spasms that have limited his mobility at times, but he has appeared healthy throughout the postseason.

Arena shot down reports that Beckham was also suffering from a hamstring injury. He added the star midfielder will train on Saturday and reiterated that Beckham will be ready to go for Sunday’s final vs. Houston.

"I'll be honest with you, I don't think David Beckham needs to train for another day in his career for the most part," Arena said, "and I just want David to be 100 percent on Sunday."
