The 2009 Mexican Soccer Draft Wednesday in Cancun has given 65 players new homes, the most important of which are the arrivals of Itamar Baptista and Jose de Jesus Corona to Tigres, Daniel Osorno and Miguel Zepeda to Atlas, Arnohold Rivas to America and Joaquin Beltran to Queretaro.
The "Regimen de Transferencias" of FMF (Mexican Soccer Federation) started in 1990 with its biggest year coming in 2002, when 131 players changed teams. The recent global economic crisis has changed the reality, however. Since 2005 the quantity has been decreased to an average of 59 transfers.
The official FMF numbers totaled 65 transfers this year, with 23 players being bought and 42 going on loans.
