Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has insisted the club has no plans to sell striker Diego Forlan and said no bids have been made.
The Uruguayan set the Primera Division alight this past season with 32 goals in 33 games, and that has made him a reported target for several clubs in Spain and beyond.
But Cerezo is adamant that suggestions Real Madrid and Barcelona are trailing the 30-year-old are wide of the mark.
"(Madrid president) Florentino Perez has not asked me anything about Forlan and nor has (Barca president) Joan Laporta," he said. "We're not studying any offer.
"We don't want to sell any player. We're creating a team to win trophies and Forlan is in our plans."
However, Cerezo went on to admit that Atletico were not in a strong financial position, despite securing fourth place and the possibility of Champions League football next season.
"We have not received any offer and no one is for sale and I'll always say that," he said. "Atletico always buys, although maybe now with less money."
The president also left the door open by admitting that he would reconsider if Forlan indicated he wanted to move on.
"Footballers play where they want to play," he said. "Diego has two years more on his contract and if he really wants to play with us he will do and if not it will be because he has a better offer."
