AMSTERDAM – Despite suffering a calf knock during Saturday's draw at Lorient, skipper Carlos Bocanegra has taken part in the opening of US camp in North Carolina.
The 31-year-old was pulled by Les Verts manager Christophe Galtier in the 56th minute after taking a good kick, but he has begun international duty on time.
"He had a calf contusion," US national team press officer Michael Kammarman told MLSsoccer.com. "He's here and he participated in portions of the [first] training session. It'll be fine."
The good news had to be welcome for coach Bob Bradley, who released injured call-ups Steve Cherundolo, Stuart Holden and Zak Whitbread before the first practice ball was kicked.
The US national team is preparing to tackle Argentina in East Rutherford, N.J., on March 26, with a follow-up friendly three days later against Paraguay in Nashville, Tenn.
