Academy beat Toronto Croatia

Stuart Neely's U-16s were 1-0 winners.

TFC Academy Under-16s beat Toronto Croatia 1-0 in the Canadian Soccer League Reserve Division at Hershey Centre on Wednesday night. The goal scored was an "own goal" on a cross from Giancarlo Baxa in just the second minute.

TFC dominated the first half, hitting the bar and post on a number of occasions. "Given the number of chances we created, the game could have been over in the first 25 minutes," said Under 16s Head Coach Stuart Neely. "In the second half, we still had the edge, but Toronto Croatia dominated in spells with a good passing game which posed problems for us. A goal was disallowed midway through the first half and again numerous opportunities rang off the goal post and cross bar. In the end we were happy that the players continued to play attacking football, but concerned about the lack of finishing. It was our second game in three days and that also played a factor as the players looked a little fatigued," explained Neely.

TFC Academy Under-16s return to action in the Canadian Soccer League Reserve Division on Wednesday, August 20th, at Ontario Soccer Centre against North York Astros Reserves. Kick off is 7:00 p.m. The Under 18s are in Canadian Soccer League action on Friday, August 15th, against North York Astros at Lamport Stadium at 8:00 p.m.
