Note: Sporting Clube de Portugal only play one match and therefore will not accumulate points

World Football Challenge Rules of Competition

Matches in the 2011 Herbalife World Football Challenge shall be played in accordance with The Laws of the Game as set by FIFA and these Rules.

Event Format

The Event shall be a single table format. Teams from Major League Soccer will be grouped into an Eastern and Western Conference, with each conference pooling points together respectively. The standings, therefore, will include the following teams: Manchester United FC, Manchester City FC, Real Madrid CF, FC Barcelona, Juventus FC, C.D. Guadalajara, Club América, MLS Eastern Conference, and MLS Western Conference. With just one game, Sporting CP will not accumulate points in the tournament. Teams will receive points as follows: three (3) points for a win in regulation, two (2) points for a penalty kick win (should the score be level after ninety (90) minutes then the winner shall be determined by the taking of kicks from the penalty spot in accordance with the Laws of the Game.), one (1) point for a penalty kick loss, and zero (0) points for a loss in regulation. A team will be awarded an additional (1) point for each goal up to 3 goals during the regulation 90 minutes of play for that specific match, regardless of whether they win or lose the match; no points will be awarded for penalty kick goals following the end of regulation. The team with the most overall number of points will determine the winner of the 2011 Herbalife World Football Challenge.

Should there be two or more teams with the same number of points after the completion of their respective matches, the following tie-breakers will be used to determine the champion of the 2011 Herbalife World Football Challenge:

1. Goal Differential in Regulation
2. Most Goals For in Regulation
3. Least Goals Against in Regulation
4. Most Goals Scored in Regulation in One Match
5. Drawing of the lots

Participating Clubs

The Event shall consist of the following professional clubs:

• Manchester City FC – English Premier League (three matches)
• Manchester United FC – English Premier League (three matches)
• FC Barcelona – Spanish La Liga (three matches)
• Real Madrid CF – Spanish La Liga (three matches)
• Juventus FC – Italian Serie A (three matches)
• Club America – FMF Primera Division (three matches)
• CD Guadalajara – FMF Primera Division (three matches)
• Sporting Clube de Portugal – Portuguese First Division (one match)
• MLS Eastern Conference – Major League Soccer
• Chicago Fire (one match)
• New England Revolution (one match)
• Philadelphia Union (one match)
• MLS Western Conference – Major League Soccer
• Los Angeles Galaxy (two matches)
• Vancouver Whitecaps FC (one match)

Players

Each Participating Club shall play to its full available playing strength in all Matches in the reasonable judgment of the Club Manager. Players shall only be selected from those registered with the Participating Club by its National Association.

Other

Disciplinary: No cautions or sending offs will carry forward into other competitive matches except that sending off for violent conduct, serious foul play, or two (2) yellow cards accumulated in a match must be carried into the next Match played by the Club in this Event only.

In case of a tie: should the score be level after ninety (90) minutes then the winner shall be determined by the taking of kicks from the penalty spot in accordance with the Laws of the Game.

Substitutions: Twenty five (25) players shall be included on the team sheet for any Match (subject only to pre-existing disciplinary proceedings) eleven (11) selected players and fourteen (14) substitutes. Eleven (11) of the substitutes may take the place of selected players at any time during the Match subject to the conditions set out in Law 3 of the Laws of the Game.

Officiating: Registered FIFA referees and assistant referees shall be appointed by the Host Association – United States Soccer Federation or Canadian Soccer Association – through the Management Committee for each Match.

Abandonment of Game: If for any reason during the Match the referee deems it necessary to withdraw the players from the field, the decision to abandon the Match will be made jointly by and between the referee and the Management Committee. The Management Committee in consultation with the referee, at its sole discretion, may deem that sufficient time had been played and the result at the time of abandonment will be the final result.

Management Committee: Management Committee will have control over all operational and on- field/football matters working in conjunction with the relevant National Associations of the Host Venue in relation to the Event in accordance with these Rules. The Members of the Management Committee include representatives from Major League Soccer, CAA Sports and participating team representatives.
