Fantasy: Positional rankings for Week 7 games this week and weekend

Fantasy: Romell Quioto

A rollercoaster Week 6 of MLS Fantasy highlighted the variance that comes with navigating the congested schedule. I learned first-hand after finishing #101 and ONE SPOT short of punching a ticket to the MLS Fantasy Champions League during the last qualifying round!

The good news is that the final qualifying round starts in Week 7 and runs through Week 10, meaning ALL fantasy managers still have a shot to finish in the Top 100 within that period to make a run at the $1,500 top prize for the eventual Champions League winner. Continue to be mindful of squad rotation and monitor starting lineups to ensure you have the best shot at racking up points. Let’s jump right in and take a look at the top players at each position this week.

Goalkeepers

Eloy Room leads the league with six clean sheets on the season and his 6.33 fantasy points per game average is tops among starting goalkeepers. While he’s up against a Nashville SC attack that came alive in last week’s 4-2 win over Atlanta, they’ve been shut out in four of six road games and Room is back at MAPFRE Stadium, where he’s posted a shutout in each of his last four home appearances.

Defenders

Kyle Duncan helped the New York Red Bulls snap a four-game winless streak with a shutout and nine points in Week 6. Up next is an FC Cincinnati side that have scored just one goal over their last six games, putting all Red Bulls defensive options in play in Week 7. Duncan showcased his attacking abilities with a goal and two assists against Cincinnati in the season opener, and combined with the strong shot at a clean sheet, he makes for a strong play at the back.

Saphir Taider went off for 18 fantasy points in Week 6 on the strength of a penalty kick goal, two assists, and five bonus points in Sunday’s 4-2 win over Vancouver. He’s up against the same opponent in Week 7, and with a chance to punch a ticket to the Canadian Championship final hanging in the balance, there’s reason to think the Algerian international picks up right where he left off.

Forwards

Romell Quioto played a big part in dispatching Vancouver in Week 6 — firing off five shots, earning a penalty and scoring a goal en route to an 11 point performance. He’s emerged as Montreal’s primary set-piece taker, and he’s sure to be heavily involved once more with the Impact in a must-win spot on Wednesday.
