Philadelphia Union 1, New York Red Bulls 0 | 2020 MLS Regular Season

The Philadelphia Union marked their return to Subaru Park with a 1-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls, thanks to a first-half goal from Kacper Przybylko.

It was a measured start from both sides with neither team risking much and there wasn't a shot on target in the opening 30 minutes. That changed with Przybylko's 31st-minute goal, which he scored his second goal of the season from close range after a cross from Raymon Gaddis on the right side of the goal. There was more energy in the game from that point, though it took until late in the first half for the Red Bulls to muster a genuine opportunity to score, a 45th minute shot from Tim Parker that was eventually saved by Andre Blake.

The Red Bulls started the second half with a renewed energy, getting close to Philadelphia's goal on multiple occasions. Midway through the first half, the game enjoyed its most lively spell as both teams traded shots. Within minutes of each other, Blake made a save on an attempt from Tom Barlow and Ryan Meara made a stop on a chance from Sergio Santos.

The Red Bulls created several chances to score in the later stages of the game, including a sequence in the 76th minute where shots from Florian Valot and Kaku were cleared away. The Red Bulls spent the entirety of stoppage time looking for an equalizer, but the Union's defensive effort was enough to ensure a clean sheet.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: It wasn't an offensive masterclass for either side, but the Union saw the game out, picking up their second clean sheet since the MLS regular season resumed in another solid display from their defense. The Red Bulls, meanwhile, took too long to get in the game, with very few opportunities before halftime.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: A slow start was given some energy with Kacper Przybylko's game winner, featuring a nice assist from Raymon Gaddis.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Kacper Przybylko, who has had a quiet 2020 compared to his 15-goal season last year, looked back to his old self with an active night, three shots and the game's lone goal.
