The top 5 matches to watch at the 2019 Generation adidas Cup

The 2019 Generation adidas Cup kicks off on Saturday in Frisco, Texas and MLS will be providing coverage of 66 Generation adidas Cup matches across both U-17 and U-15 divisions, including 38 matches with announcers from the marquee contests of the day, on Twitch.


We don't yet know the match-ups past the group stage but of the 27 games on the schedule so far, these are the five you can't miss:


Sunday, April 14


12:45 PM ET – Seattle Sounders vs. Valencia

The Seattle Sounders won the Premier Division last year after missing out on the Champions Division by a point. They are the clear-cut favorites to compete for the Champions crown this year among MLS squads, but with Brazilian powerhouses Flamengo in their group, this is a must-win for Seattle. The Sounders feature Danny Leyva, who recently signed a first-team contract, along with a handful of USL Championship players.


Monday, April 15


2:45 PM ET – LA Galaxy vs. Peñarol

Peñarol, one of the most storied clubs in South America, produced current LAFC forward Diego Rossi and are making their GA Cup debut on Saturday. They will be facing off against an LA Galaxy team that features US U-17 international Kobe Hernandez-Foster.


2:45 PM ET – FC Dallas vs. West Ham United

FC Dallas, the host team, are the top qualifiers from the Under-17 division and will be looking to advance out of a Champions Division group that not only includes EPL team West Ham United but also Mexican powerhouse Club América and the New York Red Bulls. Dallas feature two players signed to professional contracts in forward Dante Sealy (FC Dallas) and striker Ricardo Pepi (North Texas SC). Pepi was named USL League One Player of the Week in his first professional match after scoring a hat trick.


Wednesday, April 17


10:00 AM ET - LAFC vs. Cruz Azul

The LAFC U-15s were a dominant force in qualifying and are the favorites among the four MLS teams. It will be a sight to see how LAFC stack up against La Máquina in the first match of the U-15 competition between MLS and Liga MX teams.


1:30 PM ET - Vancouver Whitecaps FC vs. Deportivo Toluca

The Vancouver Whitecaps academy has received a ton of praise in the last few years for their development of Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies. As they have not participated in GA Cup in the past, the ‘Caps will come to Texas featuring standout forward Simon Colyn and will hope to top the Premier Division.
