Jermaine Jones is coming out of retirement.
The former US men's national team star has joined the Ontario Fury in MASL, not long after Landon Donovan signed with the San Diego Sockers. The 37-year-old last played professionally last year for the Ventura County Fusion, playing just a game. He last featured in MLS in 2017 for the LA Galaxy.
“Following the recent additions of Landon Donovan by San Diego and Lamar Neagle by Tacoma, we’re proud and excited to be continuing the trend of household names joining the MASL and our division," Fury President Bernie Lilavois said in a statement. "When we can bring in a player like Jermaine, who was starting games in Major League Soccer less than eighteen months ago and is a fierce competitor to this day, that speaks volumes about how far our sport has come. We can’t wait to see this American hero don the Fury crest and create lots of unforgettable memories for our fans.”
Jones and Donovan are set to square off on Thursday, April 4.
The former MLS midfielder featured for the New England Revolution and Colorado Rapids after joining from Europe, where he played for Schalke, Bayer Leverkusen and Blackburn in Europe.
