David Villa was supposed to return to the starting lineup for New York City FC on Saturday night. But just moments before kickoff, he was a late scratch against the San Jose Earthquakes after he "felt something" during warm-ups.
NYCFC have gone undefeated in four straight to start the season, including their last two without Villa, who has been nursing a calf injury. He was in Saturday's starting lineup, but felt a minor flare-up:
Villa ended up being replaced by Jo Inge Berget as a late scratch that did not cost NYCFC a substitution.
