Orlando City 0, FC Dallas 0 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

Orlando City and FC Dallas were both looking to build on their midweek wins, but neither was able to on Saturday.

The points were split on Saturday evening at Orlando City Stadium, as Orlando and Dallas played to a scoreless draw. Both teams had a few chances to break the deadlock, but neither mustered up the necessary quality in the final third.

The Lions came closest to finding a winner in second-half stoppage time through a pair of Yoshimar Yotun chances, but FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez made big saves to keep the match scoreless.

Three Things

  • NO REPLAY: One of the biggest plays in the match came in the second half when a Kellyn Acosta shot ricocheted off of Seb Hines's outrstretched arm inside the penalty area. FC Dallas clamored for a penalty kick, but never got the call, not even through Video Review since referee Armando Villarreal and his crew controversially deemed it not necessary.
  • LATE HEROICS: Orlando City came very close to finding a late winner, but Gonzalez refused to allow them to pull in front. He stopped Yotun on a shot in the 93rd minute by getting down and making himself big, and then used his face to stop another Yotun effort three minutes later. Gonzalez, who finished the game with four saves, also impressively stopped a Hines header earlier in the second half.
  • PLAYOFF IMPLICATIONS: The draw did little to help both clubs' postseason aspirations. While Orlando's chances were already slim and now on life support, Dallas' inability to pick up three points leaves the door open for the Western Conference side to be surpassed on points by Real Salt Lake and the Houston Dynamo this week. Dallas really needed more from this game.
