NYCFC's Lampard discusses new injury, No. 8, bucket lists in latest fan Q&A

Apparently the end-to-end rigors of a professional central midfielder just don't involve quite enough exercise for Frank Lampard.

Asked by a fan about his personal ā€œbucket listā€ in the latest of his ā€œAsk Lampardā€ Q&A series, New York City FC's star midfielder revealed that he aspires to run what is widely viewed as the world's most demanding triathlon after he hangs up his cleats.

ā€œI'd love to do an Ironman,ā€ said the veteran Englishman, who also revealed that living in New York is another bucket-list item he's having the pleasure of experiencing at present.

ā€œI have a huge respect for people who do the Ironman, it must be a very tough endurance race, I think it's more popular these days than ever. At the end of my career, hopefully ā€“ after a little bit of rest ā€“ I can attempt to do that.ā€

A reminder for those less familiar with the Hawai'i-born event: The Ironman consists of a 2.4-mile swim, followed by a 112-mile bicycle ride and capped by a marathon run (26.2 miles), and must typically be finished within a 17-hour timeframe.

Lampard also offered the NYCFC faithful reason for optimism with regards to the calf injury he suffered last week, which the club estimates will sideline him for 3-4 weeks.

ā€œI think hopefully that's the maximum of it. It's a different injury to what I suffered earlier in the year which kept me out a long time and had a lot of complications,ā€ he said. ā€œI'm already back running underwater, getting treatment and doing everything I can to be back as soon as possible.ā€

ā€œSuper Frankā€ also spoke on a bevy of other topics, including his favorite charity and how he wound up wearing No. 8 for most of his career.
