FC Dallas to host New England Revolution in 2016 US Open Cup final

Following the semifinals on Tuesday and Wednesday, the final for the 2016 U.S. Open Cup is set.

FC Dallas will host the New England Revolution in the final, as both teams aim to win their second Open Cup titles in their respective histories.

New England reached the final by defeating the Chicago Fire 3-1 on Tuesday at Gillette Stadium, courtesy of goals by Kei Kamara, Je-Vaughn Watson and Teal Bunbury. The Revolution last won the Open Cup in 2007, when they beat FC Dallas in the final.

Dallas advanced to the final in riveting circumstances, scoring twice in the final minutes of extra time, including the winner on the final play of the game, to defeat the LA Galaxy 2-1 at StubHub Center on Wednesday. Mauro Diaz set up both goals off corner kicks, first for Matt Hedges and then for Victor Ulloa. FC Dallas' last Open Cup title was back in 1997, the club's second season.
