The Andres Guardado-to-MLS rumors showed no signs of slowing down on Monday, when Mexican outlet MedioTiempo.com reported that the Mexico national team star would be interested in a move to the United States and that there is already an offer on the table.
"I will turn 30 in September and I can’t close the door on a growing league and I’m thankful for the interest, it’s flattering," Guardado is quoted as saying. "At the moment there is nothing, but to have my name mentioned is flattering because of the figures that are there."
Atlanta United FC have been the team most closely linked with Guardado, with ESPN and SI.com reporting their interest last month. Guardado, who has 129 caps and 24 goals for El Tri, would certainly give the club a marquee name for their debut season in 2017.
MedioTiempo reports that the offer on the table for Guardado is $3 million per year for three years, which would put him among the best-paid players in the league.
Guardado has been a fixture on the Mexican national team for 11 years and was named the Golden Ball winner as the best player of the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which Mexico won. At the club level, he started his career with Atlas before moving to Europe, where he played for Deportivo La Coruna, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen and most recently PSV, where he is expected to report back next week for preseason training after being ruled out of participation in the Olympics.
