Generation adidas Cup 2015: Recaps and boxscores from April 1 -

In the final game of the tournament's group stage, Toronto FC edged Qatari club Aspire Academy 1-0, but their margin of victory did not prove enough to reach the semifinals. Finishing level with Palmeiras on six points, the Brazilian club advanced due to their superior goal differential (+4 to Toronto's +1).

A sluggish first half saw Toronto goalkeeper Brogan Engbers make a key save 16 minutes in, while Toronto midfielder Tristan Borges whistled a free kick just wide in the 25th minute. The breakthrough came in the 55th minute, when outside back Gabriel Boakye launched a long-range effort that was tipped against the crossbar, and Cyrus Rollocks reacted first to head in the rebound.

Real Salt Lake 5, Athletic Bilbao 4

In a remarkable turnaround, Real Salt Lake rallied from a a three-goal deficit in the final 20 minutes to upend Spanish club Athletic Bilbao 5-4 and finish second in Group B.

Athletic came out intent on running up a large margin of victory and trying to catch the loser of the Eintracht Frankfurt-Palmeiras game as the tournament's best second-place squad. Borja Gonzalez scored twice to lead an offensive onslaught that left Salt Lake down 3-0 at halftime under the watchful eyes of first team general manager Craig Waibel.

RSL pulled things together in the second half. Goals from Alejandro Lopez on a vicious long-range strike and Juan Mora got RSL back in the game, but it was the fluke long-range goal off the boot of goalkeeper Conor Orton, with only three minutes remaining, that really gave RSL hope. Center back Miles Stray, moved up to forward for this game, powered in a game-tying header in the 69th minute, and Josh Drack struck a dramatic game-winner in stoppage time to complete the comeback.

FC Dallas 3, Pumas 1

After giving up an early goal, FC Dallas recovered to secure their spot in the semifinals with a 3-1 win over Mexican club Pumas.

Javier Valenzuela gave Pumas the lead just 59 seconds into the game after great work from César Palma down the right.

But Dallas worked their way back into the game and tied it in the 17th minute when Giovanni Montesdeoca scored his third goal of the tournament on a goalmouth scramble.

After a back-and-forth second half, with Pumas needing to win to advance, Dallas put the game away with a pair of late goals. The first came when substitute Devin Vega got the ball on the left wing at midfield, raced into the attacking half, cut toward the penalty arc and finally slipped a pass through. The pass was perfectly weighted for his opposite winger, Toshiki Yasuda, to bury a low finish at the far post.

With club president Dan Hunt in attendance, Dallas went for the jugular, with substitute Benji Granillo, just into the game, hitting a long-range shot that just cleared the goalkeeper's fingertips to provide the final margin.

River Plate 4, Sporting Kansas City 0

Argentine power River Plate completed their domination of Group A with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday.

While both teams had chances in the first half, River Plate was far more clinical in front of goal. Franco Lopez notched the opener with a long run, and Enzo Zicarelli then struck for a hat trick. He pounced on two rebounds in two minutes to make it 3-0 before halftime, the first from close range and the second a well-struck rip from the top of the penalty area.

Just two minutes into the second half, Zicarelli pounced again from close range, acrobatically volleying in a loose ball, and River Plate was headed for the tournament's top seed.
