Edgar Castillo in action for Club Tijuana

American Exports: Monterrey president refutes reports saying club has signed Edgar Castillo

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Club Tijuana’s Edgar Castillo has not signed for Monterrey, according to club president Luis Miguel Salvador.

A report from Goal.com’s Ives Galarcep on Monday suggested the US international left back – who didn’t make the US 30-player roster for pre-World Cup training – had already put pen to paper for Los Rayados, who are expected to undergo an overhaul this offseason.

“You are informing me [about Castillo], we didn’t know anything,” Salvador told reporters in Monterrey in quotes carried by La Afición on Monday. “If negotiating for Edgar is officially a possibility, we’ll analyze it together with [coach] Carlos Barra.”

The Monterrey president went on to flatly deny the club had enquired about the 27-year-old Castillo, but admitted that left back is a position in which it is looking to strengthen.

A report from Tijuana last week suggested Castillo could be on his way out of Xolos, who have a ready-made replacement in Texan Greg Garza.
