Castrol Weekly Top 20: Wondolowski's early case for MVP

Castrol Index - Chris Wondolowski (Week 19)

Golden Boot leader. Player of the Week. Now the Castrol Top 20 crown.

There's little that didn't go right for MLS MVP candidate Chris Wondolowski, whose hat trick against Real Salt Lake extended the San Jose Earthquakes' lead atop the league. And they have their captain to thank.

The other Quakes player who features in the Castrol Top 20 is forward Alan Gordon (No. 10), who has filled in admirable for Steven Lenhart, who has been forced to sit out with concussion symptoms.

A host of Designated Players also cracked the list: LA's Robbie Keane (No. 2), Portland's Kris Boyd (No. 4), FC Dallas winger Fabián Castillo (No. 6), Boniek García of Houston (No. 7), Marco Di Vaio (No. 13), Seattle's Álvaro Fernández (No. 19) and New York's Thierry Henry (No. 20).

Sébastien Le Toux played well enough in his debut for the New York Red Bulls, only 48 hours after a trade from Vancouver, and he landed at No. 17 in the bottom half of the chart. That's also where three Toronto FC players find themselves — a clear sign of the rejuvenation of the club under new manager Paul Mariner.
