Fraser eyeing another Ecuadorian for Chivas midfield

It appears Chivas USA are not done adding Ecuadorian midfielders.

Weeks after signing box-to-box man Oswaldo Minda, Chivas head coach Robin Fraser confirmed to MLSsoccer.com the team’s interest in Minda’s countryman, attacking midfielder Miller Bolaños of LDU Quito.

“He’s a very dynamic attacking player with a nice final pass and is a good finisher,” Fraser told MLSsoccer.com in a phone interview earlier in the week. “He’s an interesting young talent for sure. I’ve spoken to him and he seems like his head is in the right place and he has some lofty goals. We’re certainly looking forward to him helping us and us helping him.”

Last week, LDU’s official website stated Bolaños would be heading on a year-long loan to MLS, though nothing is finalized. LDU’s announcement came amid earlier reports from the Ecuadorian media which linked the 21-year-old to the Rojiblancos.

An attacking midfielder who can also play as a second striker, Bolaños played an integral role in LDU’s Copa Sudamericana title in 2009 and appearance in the tournament final in 2011.

While Fraser has been scouring the globe searching for additions, he may be looking closer to home to add depth at goalkeeper. Currently, starter Dan Kennedy is the only shot-stopper on the roster after backups Zach Thornton and Sergio Arias were released earlier in the offseason.

The Chivas head coach admitted that is considering bringing in league pool goalkeeper Kevin Guppy on a fulltime basis in 2012. Guppy, who is based in Los Angeles, has trained extensively with the Goats for the last two seasons.

"He’s absolutely an option,” confirmed Fraser. “We’re looking at him and a couple of different goalkeepers. We have a few players in mind and he’s one of them for sure.”
