Reports from Chile indicate that Unión Española defender Sebastián Miranda has decided to accept an offer from the Columbus Crew after playing for the Chilean club over the last three years.

The news published by Triunfo says that Miranda will sign a two-year contract with an option for another two seasons. Miranda joins a central defending corps that includes Chad Marshall and Andy Iro, following the departure of Eric Brunner in the 2010 Expansion Draft.

The 30-year-old has spent his entire career in Chile save for a brief stay with Red Bull Salzburg in Austria in 2005.

He returned to Chile after the spell in Austria and for the last three years he has captained Unión Española, the club where he became a central defender for its youth divisions. In the recently concluded Chilean season, Unión Española finished in fifth place but still captured a berth into the preliminary round of the prestigious Copa Libertadores after winning a playoff.

The Crew has featured two other Chileans in club history: Marcos Gonzalez (started 47 of 48 matches he played over two seasons from 2006 to 2007) and Sebastian Rozental (20 appearances and three goals in 2006).
