Wynne gets title and lots of love at BMO

Marvell Wynne was able to celebrate his first MLS Cup title in front of loud Toronto support for him

TORONTO – Colorado Rapids center back Marvell Wynne was hoping his video appeal to his former fans in Toronto would result in some more support for his club at MLS Cup 2010 at BMO Field.

It turned out that his efforts worked and exceeded all expectations.

“To hear my chant again was unbelievable,” Wynne said.

Wynne played three seasons for Toronto FC at right back before getting traded to the Colorado Rapids in the preseason and making the switch to center back.

The fans did not forget him as he returned with the Rapids to his former home stadium to win his first MLS Cup against FC Dallas on Sunday.

“When I was here I gave it my all for every game,” Wynne said. “It’s great to be in an atmosphere where they recognized it and they knew. I put my heart and soul into it and I always talked great about Toronto because I love it here. They recognize it.”

At the end of the trophy ceremony Wynne made it a point to salute the Red Patch Boys and the U-Sector.

“They were the first ones I heard doing my chant,” Wynne said. “I gave them a salute and held the trophy in their direction and they applauded. I wanted them to know I really appreciated them and the rest of the crowd.”
