TORONTO — FC Dallas had the Colorado Rapids under siege in the final minutes of extra time in a desperate, last-gasp attempt to equalize in the 2010 MLS Cup championship game.

With the Rapids up 2-1, FCD sprung forward Jeff Cunningham in the box and his shot beat Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens, but was cleared away by a nearby Rapids defender.

Fate had it that Dallas native and former FC Dallas captain Drew Moor was that defender, blasting the ball away in the 123rd minute to extinguish any remaining hope that his ex-club had of Cup glory.

“I don’t think Jeff got as much on it as he wanted to,” Moor said after the match, “but it was bouncing around a little and I had to concentrate on it. It was being at the right place at the right time.”

[inlinenode:323526]The product of Indiana University—where he won two NCAA titles—was sent from Dallas to Colorado in a 2009 exchange for center back Ugo Ihemelu. Despite being shipped off, Moor was classy when speaking of the Western Conference champions.

“Dallas were fantastic tonight,” he said. “We knew David Ferreira was going to be dangerous and he proved that. But tonight was all about the Rapids. … Our heart, our character, our leadership and determination is what saw us through.

“We’re a very blue-collar, X’s and O’s, hard-working group of guys. We don’t necessarily have the most talent, we don’t have the highest payroll and we didn’t win any postseason awards, but we got the ultimate award tonight.”

Next up for Moor: A very satisfying offseason trip back home to Dallas with an MLS Cup championship medal for all to see.

“I’m going to go back to Dallas for Thanksgiving here in the next couple of days and it’s going to feel good,” he said.
