FC Dallas is interested in bringing 1860 Munich striker Kenny Cooper back to this side of the pond, MLSsoccer.com has learned.
With the Lions looking to shed some payroll and the US international among their highest-paid players, his former club have been alerted to his availability.
German tabloid Bild reported on Monday that Kenny Cooper Sr. had been in contact with the Pizza Hut Park bunch.
Though the forward would probably command a transfer fee and would definitely require FC Dallas to climb to the top of the allocation list from fourth, boss Schellas Hyndman would clearly welcome Cooper back with open arms.
"Kenny, for me, is an FC Dallas boy," the coach told MLSsoccer.com. "He’s a man that played for this club. I thought he played his best soccer for FC Dallas.”
A definite weapon up top for his ex-club, Cooper scored 40 goals in 90 regular season games for FC Dallas. He also earned 2008 MLS Best XI honors.
"Sometimes players go someplace else and they see what’s on the other side —whether it’s a higher prestige environment, more money or whatever it is— and sometimes they’re unable to take that form with them because of the environment and the demands they put on that player,” said Hyndman
"He was a Golden Boot winner, an all-star player," the coach added. "He was very, very good. If there was an opportunity for Kenny to wear the FC Dallas shirt again, we’d definitely want that to happen."
In his most recent season abroad, Cooper failed to impress. He scored three times in 14 appearances for 1860 before heading on loan to English Championship side Plymouth in January. In England, the 25-year-old was limited to just seven substitute outings and failed to find the net.
