Mezquida is a positionally versatile attacker who has slotted into a number of roles since joining the Whitecaps. A secondary option on set pieces, Mezquida is proficient at both setting up teammates and taking the final shot on a build-up of play. Since arriving in 2014 in MLS he's scored 12 goals and added a quartet of assists in over 4,000 minutes of regular season play.
INTERNATIONAL: He represented Uruguay on both the U-15 and U-17 levels, playing in the 2009 U-17 World Cup.
OUTSIDE MLS: Mezquida had something of a nomadic existence prior to joining the Whitecaps. Starting his career at Uruguayan powerhouse Peñarol, he joined the first team in 2008, and won the 2009-10 Primera Division title. While with Peñarol, he went on loan to Norwegian sides Brann and Lillestrom. He subsequently joined Uruguayan club Centro Atletico Fenix, and then went on loan to Rampla Juniors in the second division, before moving to another second division side, Boston River.
