Leandro Gonzalez Pirez
HOW ACQUIRED: Transferred from Club Tijuana on July 1, 2020 and signed through allocation.
Gonzalez Pirez is an experienced central defender who played in the Argentinean Primera Division for five seasons before joining the Five Stripes. He was a stalwart defender for Atlanta through their first three MLS seasons, helping them capture two titles. He returns to MLS after a brief stint in Mexico and picked up where he left off as one of the best left-footed central defenders in MLS with Inter Miami CF.
INTERNATIONAL: Pirez has played at the U-17, U-20 and U-22 levels of the Argentina Youth National Team.
OUTSIDE MLS: Pirez joined Atlanta with more than 100 professional appearances, a majority of which were spent in the Argentine top flight. The Buenos Aires native has played domestically for River Plate, Tigre and Estudiantes, while making loan stops with Arsenal de Sarandí and Belgian Pro League club Gent. In his stint at Tijuana, the defender made 14 appearances in all competitions and scored four goals.
