The United States Men's National Team will play a first-round game of the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, July 11, while the national teams of Haiti, Honduras and Grenada will also visit Foxborough for the regional championship. The U.S., the two-time defending Gold Cup champion, will face Haiti at 7 p.m. in the second match of a soccer tripleheader that day. The second Gold Cup game will feature Honduras and Grenada at 9 p.m. The day's events will kick off with a Major League Soccer tilt with the host New England Revolution facing the Kansas City Wizards at 4 p.m.
Beginning today, Revolution season ticket holders have access to an exclusive presale. Starting Thursday, April 9, Revolution four-game package purchasers and other Gillette Stadium clients will be able to purchase tickets early. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, April 17, through the Revolution Ticket Office at 1-877-GET-REVS or Ticketmaster (1-800-745-3000 or www.ticketmaster.com).
The 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup marks the fourth consecutive Gold Cup tournament in which Gillette Stadium has served as a host venue. In Gold Cup action, the United States Men's National Team is 6-0-1 at Gillette Stadium since 2003.
Gillette Stadium is one of a record 13 locations for the biennial event, which serves as the regional soccer championship. The tournament kicks off on Friday, July 3 in Carson, Calif., at The Home Depot Center and concludes on Sunday, July 26, at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
The tournament will use the same format as in 2005 and 2007, with the 12-team field divided into three, four-team groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals along with the two best third-place teams.
Group A includes Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Jamaica. Group B includes the U.S., Grenada, Haiti and Honduras. Group C includes Mexico, Guadeloupe, Nicaragua and Panama.
Other venues hosting the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup are: The Home Depot Center (Carson, Calif., July 3); Qwest Field (Seattle, Wash., July 4); Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (Oakland, Calif., July 5); Columbus Crew Stadium (Columbus, Ohio, July 7); RFK Stadium (Washington, D.C., July 8); Reliant Stadium (Houston, July 9); Florida International University Stadium (Miami, July 10); University of Phoenix Stadium (Glendale, Ariz., July 12); Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia, July 18); New Dallas Cowboys Stadium (Arlington, Texas, July 19); Soldier Field (Chicago, July 23); and Giants Stadium (East Rutherford, N.J., July 26).
For the first time in CONCACAF Gold Cup history, matches will be played on state-of-the-art, latest generation FieldTurf surfaces in stadiums that are already so equipped, including Gillette Stadium.
