David Beckham has said he would not want to play for any Premier League side other than Manchester United, but Tottenham Hotspur appear interested in testing the LA Galaxy superstar's resolve.
On Saturday—the opening day of the transfer window—Spurs manager Harry Redknapp confirmed the rumors that the London side would like to bring Beckham to White Hart Lane on a loan.
"We'll contact LA Galaxy to see if they will let him go and if David is up for a three-month deal, we will definitely be interested," Redknapp said, according to the BBC.
Beckham, who normally plays on the right flank, would compete for a place with England international Aaron Lennon. However, Beckham played only seven matches for the Galaxy in 2010 after recovering from an Achilles tendon injury that he sustained while playing for AC Milan last winter.
"I'm sure he can still do a great job at the top level, otherwise I wouldn't bother," Redknapp said. "He isn't going to come here and get big money. We aren't massive payers at this club. But he wants to come over here to the freezing cold and play football. Doesn't that tell you something about the boy that he lives in Los Angeles and might be a billionaire?"
Redknapp also said that Beckham is reportedly interested in coming to Tottenham, despite his previous statements that he wouldn't play for any EPL team other than Manchester United. The Galaxy did not respond to questions seeking comment.
"He just said that he would like to come and play here at Tottenham,'' Redknapp said in a report on ESPN Soccernet. "We'd have to get him quickly if it's going to happen as he's only available until March. I've left it to the people at the club. I've passed it on them. They're talking to whoever they have to talk to at his club. It's down to whether they'd let him come or not."
