The Portland Timbers and San Jose Earthquakes square off in a Decision Day presented by AT&T showdown that will likely determine one of the final two Western Conference playoff spots. 

The Timbers (13-13-7) sit one point above the playoff line in the West after a chippy 2-2 draw against Sporting Kansas City in a game that saw Portland go down to 10 and Sporting finish with nine after Brian Fernandez, Roger Espinoza and Ilie Sanchez were all sent off. Krisztian Nemeth leveled one minute after Sebastian Blanco opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Daniel Salloi scored one minute after the break, but Dairon Asprilla equalized from the penalty spot in the 85th minute after Ilie was sent off for DOGSO. 

The Earthquakes (13-15-5) are one point below the playoff line and are coming off a 1-0 home loss to the Seattle Sounders, their fifth consecutive defeat. Jordan Morris provided the dagger in second-half stoppage time.

In the first meeting this season April 6 at Avaya Stadium, the Quakes rolled to a 3-0 victory with Danny Hoesen and Cristian Espinoza scoring one minute apart after Shea Salinas opened the scoring in the 15th minute.
