It’s a massive match in the Eastern Conference playoff picture when the New England Revolution meet Philadelphia Union on Saturday evening at Gillette Stadium. The Revolution are sitting right on the red line, in a tie for sixth place in the East, suffering a second consecutive defeat last weekend in a 2-1 loss at Toronto FC. Union are five points further ahead in fifth place in the conference, now winless in their last four matches following a late 2-2 draw at D.C. United last Saturday evening.

- The Revolution suffered a second consecutive heavy defeat on the road, falling 4-1 to Toronto FC on Saturday evening at BMO Field.
- Union had their current winless run extended to four games with a second draw in that span, D.C. United hitting for a late equalizer to leave the teams knotted at 2-2 on Saturday evening.

- The opener came in the 18th minute as C.J. Sapong rifled home a Fabinho cross, then Union and Sapong doubled their output in the 33rd minute, as Warren Creavalle found Sapong from the left-hand side of the area for a finish inside the far post.
- The game took a turn in the 36th minute when New England right back Je-Vaughn Watson was sent off with a straight red card. Union won a penalty in first-half stoppage time as New England fullback Andrew Farrell made contact with Philadelphia’s Ilsinho, but goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth saved the penalty attempt.
- Union were awarded a second penalty in the 78th minute, as Jose Goncalves fouled Sapong in the box, but Shuttleworth recorded his second penalty save, stopping Sebastien Le Toux’s attempt. Le Toux was able to find the back of the net and provide the final scoreline in stoppage time, turning home a low cross from Leo Fernandes.
