NEW YORK (Friday, Aug. 6, 2021) – New England Revolution forward Gustavo Bou was voted the Major League Soccer Player of the Month by members of the media for July of the 2021 MLS season.

Bou registered five goals and an assist in July, contributing to a goal in six of the Revolution’s seven games throughout the month. He scored or assisted in four consecutive games between July 17-31 and scored two game-winning goals over that stretch. With his five goals over the month, Bou is tied for second place in the standings for the MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi, with 10 goals on the season.

Bou started the month by scoring the second goal in the Revolution’s 2-2 draw with the Columbus Crew on July 3 in the grand opening of Lower.com Field (WATCH HIGHLIGHTS HERE). He started his four-game stretch with a goal or assist with the game-winning goal against Atlanta United on July 21 (WATCH HIGHLIGHTS HERE). Then in New England’s 2-1 win over CF Montréal on July 25, Bou scored both goals, the first a laser from 25 yards out which bounced into the net off the crossbar (WATCH HIGHLIGHTS HERE). Bou followed up that game with another long-range effort against the New York Red Bulls on July 31 that hit the crossbar as well on its way into goal (WATCH HIGHLIGHTS HERE).

In a fine run of form, Bou started the season with five goals in his first nine games of the season before doubling his goal tally with his five goals in July and made one MLS Team of the Week appearance during this run. His goalscoring contributions throughout the month were also instrumental to the Revolution’s rise up the Supporters’ Shield standings as they now sit in first place with 37 points, four points ahead of joint Western Conference leaders Sporting Kansas City and Seattle Sounders FC.

The Revolution return to action on Sunday, Aug. 8 when they host Philadelphia Union (6 p.m. ET / ESPN+), who currently sit third in the Eastern Conference standings. Both sides have met once already this season with the game at Subaru Park ending in a 1-1 with each team scoring a goal after the 80th minute.

MLS Player of the Month is voted upon by a panel of select national media members in a process conducted by MLS Communications.
