The Philadelphia Union pulled off one of the more sensational moves in recent SuperDraft history in 2019 when they traded all five of their picks to FC Cincinnati.
This year they did it again. At least when it comes to the 1st Round.
The Union dealt their first round pick – the No. 21 overall selection – to D.C. United in order to move up by four spots in the Allocation Ranking (from No. 21 to No. 17).
While Philly don't have a pick in Round 2 of the 2020 draft, they still have the No. 73, No. 99 and No. 101 overall picks remaining during Rounds 3 and 4 which will be held on Monday. They could opt to pass on those draft picks.
“As was the case in 2019, we’re committed to focusing on our academy pipeline as our primary source of cultivating young talents such as Jack de Vries and Cole Turner,” Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner explained in a club statement. “Not only will we look to continue signing Union Academy products to our MLS and USL squads, but we will continue to devote resources to developing players we bring in from abroad.”
