Save of the Week

Luis Robles wins Save of the Week with penalty kick stop

With his team down a player, New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles made a crucial save against Toronto FC on May 28 and has been rewarded with the Save of the Week award. Robles dove to save Will Johnson's penalty kick (the first had been called back for encroachment) in the 48th minute, keeping Toronto in a 3-0 hole. Robles finished with seven saves in earning his fourth shutout of the year.

The award is the first time Robles has won Save of the Week this season, but he was no stranger to the honor last year, winning three times in four weeks in October en route to being named Allstate Goalkeeper of the Year.

Robles dominated the final round of voting, with 73 percent of the vote to beat Vancouver's David Ousted. Robles had earlier posted head-to-head wins over Portland's Jake Gleeson (56-44) in the semifinals and D.C. United's Bill Hamid (53-47) in the opening round.
