Save of the Week

MLS Save of the Week is back! Here's all the info on its new look

Save of the Week - week 1

MLS Save of the Week is back, and, just like its attacking counterpart, it’s a got a new look.

We’ve changed how Save of the Week is voted on, switching from the old, five-goal poll to an all-new tournament featuring eight saves facing off head-to-head in a bracket format.

The saves will be selected every week by the MLSsoccer.com staff, then paired off into four quarterfinal matchups. The four quarterfinal winners will advance to the semis, and the two semifinal winners will square off in the final, with the winner announced each Friday during the season.

Voting for Save of the Week will begin every Tuesday, and conclude on Thursday nights at 11:55 pm ET. The full voting timeline is below:

  • Tuesday: Voting for quarterfinals begins
  • Tuesday, 11:55 pm ET: Voting for quarterfinals ends, semifinal vote begins
  • Wednesday, 11:55 pm ET: Voting for semifinals ends, final vote begins
  • Thursday, 11:55 pm ET: Voting for final ends
  • Friday: Winner announced

A strong group of saves are up for the Week 1 honors. San Jose’s David Bingham is facing off against New York City FC’s Josh Saunders, Sporting KC’s Tim Melia is up against Crew SC’s Steve Clark, Montreal’s Evan Bush is battling Orlando’s Joe Bendik and Colorado’s Zac MacMath is squaring off against a Rocky Mountain rival, RSL’s Nick Rimando.
